Because this is my first blog post, I wanted to share with you a little bit about me… not the “YOU MUST WRITE A BIO” from marketing pros, but the bit about me that is not just an Interior Designer, but a wife, mom and I think, pretty genuine human being. For those that no doubt signed on for the tips, tricks and newest in design, don’t worry - future posts will be mostly design based with a sprinkling of other things that inspire me. Oh..and please be gentle. Just a reminder – first blog EVER!
Family is At The Heart of What I Do
It’s hard for me to think of home and not to think of family. From creating a space that speaks to me and my family to how we function in our day to day lives, family is at the core of every detail in my home. We’ve mostly raised our beautiful boys in our home near Cochrane. We’ve been lucky enough to give them plenty of space to roam with enviable views of the mountains and the little lake that is just outside our back door. And when life moves on as it inevitable does, we’ll hopefully create a new home where we can welcome them and their own families.
I Have Itchy Feet
I’ll let you in on a little secret. Or if you actually read through the page by page of my website, it’s not a secret. When I was a kid, I moved around A LOT! Growing up, I had the opportunity to decorate and redecorate my room on what felt like the daily. And while that did create a love of creating new spaces, the other love it instilled in me was travel. Travel is my way of scratching that itch to be somewhere new. My idea of a good time is browsing through the markets and antique shops, taking photos of architectural details with lots of stops for local delicacies, cappuccinos and a good dose of wine here and there.
I Could Pet Fabrics
All Day Long
I could actually sit in a corner petting gorgeous fabrics and be quite happy, at least for a while. It’s a bit embarrassing, but I refuse to go to therapy. I had the opportunity recently to view the latest from Pierre Frey and Designers Guild. There were those that I adored and others I couldn’t picture anyone I’ve worked with ever requesting, but nevertheless, I deeply appreciated the artistry that went into making them. And I didn’t pet them once (while anyone was looking).
I’m a Shoe-a-holic
Ok, shoes. That does not need explanation. Suffice to say, I still have a personal email address that pays homage to this “hobby.” I have a friend that years ago once implied that the reason I wanted to become an interior designer was so that I’d have a place to wear my shoes. I would say she was right if construction sites weren’t a part of the mix – although I must say, there’s some great boots out there. I’ve worked hard over the last few years to rein in this particular weakness, but it still bubbles to the surface every once in awhile.
I Am a Book Nerd to the Core
I am an unapologetic book nerd. While I love to get out and see what the world has to offer, in the end I am drawn to the comforts of home. I love to curl up with a good book. Fiction, non-fiction, business – I really love them all. Right now I’m reading Joyful – The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Happiness by Ingrid Fetell Lee. If you’re looking for something new to read, check it out.
I Am Undiagnosed OCD (according to my kids)
Lastly, and no judgement please. Organization. Nothing frustrates me more than running around looking for that piece of paper hubby misplaced or someone’s keys, wallet, (insert item here)… I would honestly line up all the cans and containers in the pantry and go crazy with a label maker if my boys didn’t already imply that I might be a little OCD. Be honest though, wouldn’t you love a pantry like this? Although it could use a few labels...
