Fugly to Fabulous Modern French Country Office Makeover - Installation Week 2

Spring '23 - One Room Challenge Week 7

We all know the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” but sometimes it doesn’t speak

the truth! I can almost hear your thoughts: "Seriously? It's week 7 of the 8-week One Room Challenge, and this is all you've got to show us?" Despite this lackluster photo, let me assure you that we're not out on the patio sipping cocktails while the deadline looms over us. Nope, not at all! We're knee-deep in the One Room Challenge, frantically juggling the remainder of our checklist as we transform this workspace from fugly to fabulous for me and my assistant. And right now my stress level is at “yes, a margarita sounds good for lunch, thank you!”

This is the stage where clients often get frustrated as they await the transformation of their space. Visually there's not much to share as all of the progress is happening off site. I had big dreams of giving you a sneak peek at our doors and drawers in the pretty Sherwin Williams Pacific Fog we selected. But alas, we're not quite there yet. You know how it goes—sometimes the tiniest details cause minor delays.

Just in the last few days, we received the upper cabinets and all the door and drawer fronts. Say goodbye to my husband's golf game aspirations this long weekend! He's stepping up to build the base cabinets and wood countertop as well as spray the cabinetry. I can hardly contain my excitement to see how it all turns out! Oh, and guess what? The real gems of the cabinets—brass cremone bolts straight from the UK—are on their way to grace my doorstep any day now. The drapes are on their way, and next week, get ready for the pièce de résistance—a stunning 76" handcrafted desk for two, featuring a curvy feminine base and drawers on either side from Rumo Designs.

Now, let's get real for a sec. Despite all these amazing developments, we're still up to our ears in work. And here's our latest challenge—furniture! Finding the perfect pieces has been quite the adventure. We initially had our hearts set on restoring antique chairs and a console table. But oh boy, the universe had other plans! We're dealing with comfort that's questionable at best, and in many cases, chairs that seem to have been made for leprechauns! And don't even get me started on the chair arms and their mission to squeeze under the desk. So let's all say a little prayer to the design gods and hope that this week everything magically falls into place. Fingers crossed!

To all my fellow challengers, good luck as we race towards the finish line! And a big thank you to Apartment Therapy for sponsoring all of this challenge!! Join me next week for Week 8 of the One Room Challenge, where I'll unveil the jaw-dropping transformation of my once-fugly office into a modern French country paradise.

Until then,
